An Eyebutt is an eyeball with lips, skinny arms and legs and a big butt. If you're curious, they're actually a combination of Salvador Dali, Norman Rockwell and Gary Larson art all squeezed together.
The most common question I've been asked about the Eyebutts is simply—"How did you come up with the Eyebutts?" I guess I just did, with a little inspiration from my friend Garvin. I started drawing Eyebutts while I was a sophomore art major at UCD, but not in a serious way. I didn't develop the idea further until I entered Boston University's graduate Art Program several years later. The first series of Eyebutt paintings was a bit of a shock to my fellow graduate students. For the average grad student who was accustomed to traditional fine art imagery such as landscape, figurative or abstract paintings, Eyebutt pictures seemed a bit out of the norm. My paintings were either delightfully appreciated or heavily criticized for their humor and cuteness. I thought they were simply cute and felt it was an idea I needed to pursue. My motivation to create the Eyebutts is the desire to express the simple message of innocence and laughter - with a twist, of course. My hope is that people will be uplifted while looking at these pictures. I guess I just simply want to make people smile since life can be kinda tough sometimes. Pretty weird, but—I LIKE THEM!! I hope you like them too. Temo Moreno |
